How to Plan Shelves for Upright Bookshelf

Hi! This is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, we will be laying out our shelves. If you recall, we are making two sets of bookshelves. One of them being made out of all oak and oak plywood veneer and the other one being made out of a cabinetry grade birch. Since we went ahead and attached out back piece, we are ready to lay out our shelves. I am going to be taking a couple of measurements. The first measurement being the depth which is 9 3/4 inches. Th3e next measurement is the width which is about 20 and a little bit over a half. So my measurement was 9 3/5 by 20 1/2. I am going to subtract 3/4 of an inch for trim on the front edge of my shelf which gives me an overall measurement of 9 inches by 20 1/2 inches. If I take a look at my cutting diagram, I've already cut off these sections so I am going to be ripping my 3/4 inch sheet of plywood to 9 inches and then I am going to cross cut that to get each of my shelves.
