Be Honest to Police When Pulled Over
Hi! My name is Shaun Appler, investigator with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department. On behalf of Expert Village, I am going to talk to you today about what to do when being stopped by the police. People react differently to stress. We understand that. Growing up some people as they were kids associated getting in trouble with all of a sudden to have to defend yourself in life. Unfortunately it has been ingrained in so many people that when you are stopped by the police, your first instinct is to lie, to look. We are professionals. We are out here doing a job. If we see a violation on your vehicle, we are not just picking on you. We didn't just randomly pick your vehicle out of the crowd. Chances are you've done something wrong. If you walk up to the car and you deny it and lie about stuff, it is not going to go well for you. Like I said, we are going to win that argument on the side of the road and you don't want to look at anything additionally. Honesty goes to strength and character. You know you've done wrong. Be honest. The officer can work with you but again that is going to go towards your benefit, so be honest. The last thing is attitude. Again, people react differently to stress. The attitude that we covered is the biggest problem that I've seen is the person walks up there, people are attacking. Why are you doing this to me. They give the officer a hard time. I pay your salary. Whatever. Keep a good attitude withe the offer. It is going to help you in the long run.
