Hi! This is Steven Keilholz Flooring on behalf of Expertvillage.com. Today I am going to show you how to prep up the floor for a new installation for flooring in your basement. The first thing we are going to be using is a floor scraper. Second thing we will be using is a broom. When scrapping your floor you want to make sure there is no dry wall mud, putty, gum, paint residue, clumps of paint, anything that would affect the performance of your new floor. Just scrape the floor, get everything big off the floor that would be there that would cause any kind of problem with the new floor. With that being done when you get done with that then you want to sweep the floor. Sweeping is very important because when you sweep you want to make sure you get everything. Sometimes using a shop vac in the corners is optional as well. Again keep in mind you want to make sure you get in the corner absolutely perfectly.
