Hi! I am Grady Johnson with Karma Train Productions and today I’ll be discussing 16 mm films. I’m representing ExpertVillage.com. Now we are going to go ahead and thread up a film but before we do that, the first thing we want to look at is the very end of our leader and reason for this is if the leader is not cut off properly and goes in crooked, it’s going to jam up these little holes right here. Now these are the holes that are grabbed by the sprockets that pulls the film through. So if these are not threaded in properly, you are going to run into a mess, you are going to jam up and destroy a film, that’s when you start breaking leader and sometimes even film. So cutting it is very important and when we open up these films, we never know what we are going to find. Now when we pop this one open, we got, oh! We’ve got a nice new film and we want to go ahead and look at it, and I wonder how this thing is doing. Now when we are looking at this, we can see that this leader is a little screwed up, so what I’m going to want to do is I’m going to want to cut that in. So when I put my film on here, pop it into place and then go ahead and take a look. Now before we put that in there we’re going to need to cut it. Now, to do that I give myself a little room to work, you need to thread this thing down through here like this and get it on down and go ahead and give yourself a little bit of leader on that and hold it down square. Now, it’s not going to be much good. You don’t want to cut off very much, because you know, the more you chop off, the more leader you are going to use, so be sure you only cut off just a little bit, just get it where it’s been. Now since we got that all lined up make sure you see the little leveler bar here, that it’s all even on either side. You don’t want it all crooked in there, like that, because it’s going to cut it uneven and that defeats the purpose, so get it all in there straight and when you are sure that’s all lined up right go ahead and pop that off and get it all squared. Now once that’s off nice and square then you can go ahead and thread that in there. Now this is something you’re going to want to check every single time you put one of these in just to be sure that you have that nice and squared off, and that’s how the cutter works and the reason we have to do the cutting.
