How to Push Off in Ice Dancing

Okay, as promised, now we're going to show you what you do once you've mastered skate, skate, glide, skate, skate, glide. Then what you're going to do is you're going to bend and push. We're going to show you the proper way of skating. You want to make sure that you're pushing out like that and now with your toes. You don't want to see any toe pushes like this. You want to make sure that you're pushing out. Bend, out, together, bend, out, together. The stroke is the most important element in ice-skating because it is the exact same timing as you do a jump or a spin. It's down, up, down, together. It's 1, 2, 3, 4. You bend down, push, 1, come up, 2, feet together, 3, bend down, push, 4. That is the same timing that you're going to see later on in jumps and spins. You can watch that they're all doing proper stroking. Okay, 1, 2, 3, 4. See how she pushes to the side.
