Making Public Appearances for Political Campaigns
Hi, this is Jim Goettler on behalf of Expert Village. This is a series of video segments about managing a political campaign. In this segment, I'm going to touch on the need for public appearances by the candidate and need for public presentations if you're working in an initiative campaign. Your field office, that I spoke about earlier, should take the lead in setting up public appearances for existing activities, such as fairs and festivals, street fairs, public debates, etc., so that your candidate can get out in front of the public. It's going to be something that takes up most of the time of the campaign; some campaigns see it as a sort of tug-of-war, as many different competing organizations try to get the candidate to come to their event, and that's a good thing. That means you've made it over the threshold and the public now wants to hear and see what you're up too. For initiative campaign, you need to have a couple of spokespeople for your initiative. And again, get to the local political organizations, get on their calendars, see what's going on, where you can plug in and get your initiative before the people who matter, who can contribute their time and their energy, and yes their money, to your campaign. So the outreach, the public presentation, is very important in any campaign and I can't stress strongly enough, the need to do it. The other thing involving the general public, which I'll get to next, is the need to respond to the external surveys that your campaign is going to get in the mail. Open those envelopes. Thanks!
