Using House Parties for Political Campaigns
Hi, this is Jim Goettler on behalf of Expert Village and this is a video series about managing a political campaign. One of the ways to raise money for a campaign which is often overlooked is using house parties. Now house parties can be as simple as having a video of your candidate or a video about your issue if it's an issue campaign. Available to play in someone's home unit, you invite a bunch of friends over, you have some munchies, some food, some drink, and while people are there discussing the issue, you ask them to write a check. It's known up front what this is all about, there's no mystery involved. But they can also be a lot of fun because it brings people together who generally share ideas and opinions and you can have a really good time at a house party. For a candidate, it's often possible to have the candidate themselves come to the party. The way it's generally structured is you'll have folks come by at x hour, have some beverages, have some food, discuss the candidate, discuss the campaign, and then properly timed of course, have the candidate come to the house and introduce himself and talk a little while about the candidacy, about their campaign, about the issues that they are very passionate about and then of course, entertain questions from folks at the house. The nice thing about this is you can do frankly, many at the same time. Many of these house parties will take place without you actually being there. Or local folks around the state or around the region bring these things on about an initiative. They invite a dozen of their friends, they invite two dozen of their friends and they have themselves a party. The idea of course is to raise money so you need to have those baskets out around the room, you need to be willing to ask people to bring their checkbooks and write the thing. Now one thing you can have at house parties is all the, there is buttons and swag as it's called, the thing is a giveaway. Don't worry about charging for that stuff. The idea is to get the bumper stickers and the buttons and so on out into view so people see them. Most campaigns factor into, remember the printing costs I mentioned earlier, the printing of materials to be distributed. These are one place to distribute these things obviously are at the house parties to people that are already supporters of the campaign. The next segment I'm going to present is going to just involve the monthly reporting requirements, the quarterly reporting requirements of a campaign. Thank you.
