How to Choose a Candidate for a Political Campaign
Hi, this is Jim Goettler on behalf of Expert Village and this is a video series about managing a political campaign. This segment I want to touch on the working for, working with a candidate for public office, which is a very different creature than working with an initiatives. A candidate is an individual and is something that you have to keep in mind if you're going to enter into the field. You need to know that candidate, you need to have a relationship with that candidate that goes far beyond simply as employer and employee. And, likewise if you are the person running for political office you need to think in terms of a manager you really get along with because you're going to entering into a very intense, very, a ride like no other as you begin to form staff and put your finances together so that you can actually gain the office you're working for. So, it's a very special kind of relationship that's unlike any other employee/employer relationship. So, you need to know the candidate. You need to know what the family's all about, who their friends are. Really get to know the person because when you go out into the field and out into the community to discuss the canidacy you're going to have to be able to speak just as the candidate does, sometimes on their behalf, so you need to have a very solid understanding of who the person is as well as all the issues that are going to come up in the course of the campaign. Trust me, there will be cases when things will be thrown at you you are completely unprepared for issue wise. Knowing the candidate and knowing how the candidate thinks is going to help you considerably do your job as a campaign manager or as a staff person on the campaign. The next segment I'm going to touch on the initiative campaign which again is slightly different, but I think we should go through that a little bit. So next segment we'll work on is the initiative campaign, Thanks.
