Polaris ATV Front Brake Maintenance

On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Tom Roland and we are at Cottonwood Motor Sports and I am here to tell you about doing a service on a Polaris Quad and this is fairly representative of macho, many of them. On the front brake which operates all four wheels, the cap, this would be the cap and there are two nuts that screws on the top of it and the same deal. The fluid is supposed to be clean. It should be filled about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way to the top. Some cylinders have a inspection window in them but as long as it is clean and it is about 3/4 to the top, that is generally fine. You also want to inspect the rubber gasket when you take the cap off to make sure that the cap isn't going to leak when you put it back together again. Brake fluid causes a lot of damage and can actually damage plastic. It could take these stickers right off the tank. Some plastic won't damage but some plastic will cause it to crack. So you want to make sure that you don't make a mess with your brake fluid. Also, your emergency brake or your parking brake on your Polaris is built into the handle here. You want to make sure that you have metal handle. You want to make sure that your brake has a lot of handle so that you know that it is going to be real solid. Also when you pull it, you want to make sure that it will stay locked. Sometimes the master cylinder will go bad and you'll pull the brake on it a little bit and then you will slowly feel it start to go back. That usually indicates that the seal inside the master cylinder are bad and they would need to be replaced. It is real common. They are almost all exactly the same and these are the things you look for on all of them. That's it for the brakes on the Polaris.
