Make Salt Rising Bread Potato Starter
Hello my name is Jenny Bardwell and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village with my colleague Susan Brown and we are going to teach you today how to make salt rising bread. Another common recipe you would find for salt rising bread is potatoes. So we would show you how to start up this starter. First you peel 2 medium potatoes in a jar or a bowl and you add a 8th of teaspoon of soda. I never measure. A 8th of a teaspoon of salt and you pour a half of cup of water boiling water over the potatoes. In this particular recipe you at this point sprinkle 3 tablespoons of flour on top of the potatoes but you do not stir the flour in you just simply. Can I stir it now? You can you can actually cover the, your potatoes should be covered so you may actually want to add a little bit more water to that. But it has to be scold? Yes. That is good. After you have added the salt, the soda, the scolding water to the potatoes you then add 3 tablespoons of flour on top of the potatoes and the interesting thing about this is you do not stir the flour into the mixture. You just simply pour it on top. Next you cover it with your plastic or your lid like so and then put it in your method for keeping it warm. For example in the crock pot.
