Tips for Warming Salt Rising Bread Starter
Hello my name is Jenny Bardwell and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village with my colleague Susan Brown and we are going to teach you today how to make salt rising bread. One of the most important things about making salt rising bread is that you must keep the temperature of the rising warm. No more then a 100 degrees as Jenny said before so that your rising would come if you get it to hot the bacteria would die. If it don't get warm enough the bacteria would not grow. So many people ask me how do you set your rising, where do you set it so that it is the right temperature. There is several methods to show you how to do that. First method we are going to show you is using a crock pot. You put your crock about a 3rd of the way full of water inside, then you take the lid and you put it upside down on the crock pot, put 5-6 hot pads on top of that. Turn the crock pot to the lowest setting that you have and put your bowl of starter on top of that. I think the way to insure that you have the right temperature is take a thermometers here I got one of these digital thermometers and put it in your started. You can see you want it at a 100-105 degrees. You can also use one these kind of thermometers and test it as you go to make sure it is not going over a 100.
