Using Editing Features on an Akai MPC Drum Machine
This is D.J. Brasby for Expert Village. We are going over using the MPC to make hip hop beats. We are going to trim the sample that we just brought into our machine. To get into trim mode you hit shift 5 and that would display the sound we just captured. To play it make sure your volume is turned up and you can just press the pad. The start of the sound is highlighted here. In the end you can move your cursor down and use your data wheel to trim the sound. Say, we just wanted to trim it to this noise right here and a shortcut here is if you hold shift and use your slider bar it moves it much faster. You can fine tune it with a data wheel, hit at it once and it will ask you if you want to discard everything but what is highlighted and you hit F5 to do it; it processes the sound and see we have a little gap of silence here before the drum hits. You can trim that further and we have a little bit of garbage on the end, right there. Move the cursor to the end section and use your data wheel and now you have just the sound you want.
