Using Settings to Alter the Sound on an Akai MPC Drum Machine
This is D.J. Brasby here for Expert Village. We are going to go over the MPC. We are inside the program. To get here we hit shift six, drum one, then we hit the parameter key F2. Inside here we have the attack that is the front of your sound. So if you add to the attack it’s going to cut off a bit of the front. Decay is the opposite; that’s the back of your sound. So if you add to that it’s going to cut off a bit of the end of the sound and fade it out. Here is your decay mode. It is either going to be really sharp, how it affects the sound or more subtle and allow the sound to play before it affects it. Over here you have your filter, your frequency. Basically the lower the number its going to be lower, its going to be more base and if you turn it higher then you get more of the highs of the sound. The resonance adds a little bit of top end to it so if you set that at… it adds a little bit of the highs. If you set that it goes from 1-15 or 0-15. Your overlap partly allows you to play the sound if you have a long sound and it will play over and over and each one will overlap. If you turn your data wheel, you can change it to mono that will play the first one and when the second one plays, if you hit two consecutive it stops the first one and note off means you have to actually hold the pad down for it to play it all. It will play until you let go off the pad. Your tune goes zero to negative 240 makes the sound slower or goes positive the same amount 240 and makes the sound faster.
