Using the 16 Levels Feature on an Akai MPC Drum Machine

This is D.J. Brasby here for Expert Village. We are going to go over the MPC making hip hop beats. We are going to go over the 16 levels feature. Press the 6 levels and it will ask you to choose a sound. We are going to choose our kick and the parameter, you can choose the velocity, which is volume or you can scroll the wheel. It allows you to do note variation that’s going to make different speeds, a variety of different speeds where you can go down and choose decay that’s going to affect the end of the sound. Attack will affect the beginning of the sound. Filter will affect the sound of it; the base versus the highs. Right here we are just going to use velocity. Hit F5 to turn on. Now that you turn the 16 levels on, the 16 levels button will be highlighted and your sound is spread across these pads, 16 different versions of your sound with one version being down here in this corner and the complete opposite version being up here. Since this is the velocity volume, this goes from lowest to loudest. This allows another way to add some variety into your beats.
