Hi, this is Mike Lopez with Expert Village and now we are going to go over scratching. Now it all fouls in 9 ball resolves in both hands. But scratching is probably the most exegesis but as you see here the lowest object ball on the table is the 3. Now opponent hitting on the 3 would try to make it down on the corner pocket without scratching in that side pocket. Doing this is very difficult. As you can see I made the 3 ball in the corner but the cue ball scratched so now the opponent has the ball in his hand. Now that the opponent has the ball in the hand they can put it anywhere on the table and the next lowest object ball just so happens to be the 5. Now the 5 is being blocked between the 6 however being as you can hit the object ball into another object ball and continue to shoot as long as a object ball goes in a hole means that the person is going to pocket the 6 ball using the 5. Moving the 5 ball to pocket in, in the same pocket. So for that scratch you just lost 3 balls off the table to the opponent who now has a 3 ball run and you are pretty much automatically going to use lose. This is why scratching is most hard of fouls in 9 ball.
