How to Clarify Goals: Success Secrets

Hello, my name is Kerul Kassel and I'm the author of the book "Stop Procrastinating Now". I'm here on behalf of Expert Village and we're going to talk today about preparing for your own success. Personal productivity strategies for achieving your goals and becoming more effective. Today in this session we 're going to talk about clariflying the tasks and goals by first clarifying your objectives. You see we have a board right next to me. The reason we have to talk about tasks vs. goals vs. objectives is because most people pursue things that they don't really look at first and they get off track because they're not aligned with what they really want. So, let's take a look at the difference between tasks vs. goals vs. objectives. So, first we'll look at tasks. Tasks are the small things, the small steps that get you closer to a goal. Goals are what get you to objectives. Objectives is really what you want. So, let's take a look. If you want to eventually look better, you'll want to diet and lose weight. But we put diet first. Diet is only one means to the end of looking better. There are many other means of looking better. Changing your wardrobe, getting a different hairstyle, many other ways of looking better and feeling better about yourself, diet is only one of them. So, if the goal is to lose weight, diet is only way to achieve this goal so we need to clarify what our objectives are because there may be better ways of achieving them. So, here's another example. We say we have to go to the gym. Why? Well, to get fit. Why get fit? Because we want to feel better physically. Getting to the gym is only one way to achieving the "feel better" objective. There are many other ways to feel better, not just "to the gym" and not just diet necessarily. But, there are attitude adjustments, there are other ways to achieve "feeling better", medication, other kinds of therapies. Here's another one. Declutter to be organized. But, their real goal is to be more efficient, effective, and productive. There are other ways than just decluttering to reach this goal. We're talking about them today. Budget, to create a budget. The reason is to pay off your debts. Why do we want to pay off our debts? We want financial calm, this is the real goal. These are only steps to this goal and there are many other ways to achieve this goal, these are only two possibilities. Status and security is the real objective when we're pursuing a performance increase of 25%. To get a promotion, financial security and status is what we're looking for, these are only two ways to achieve it. They're not necessarily bad ways but we always have to be aware of what we want here because these might not be the best way to this. Income up and security, making cold calls is one, a lot of sales people know this one. The end result: more sales. But, the reason we want better income and more security. So this is taking a look at getting clear what our tasks are by looking at our objectives.
