How to Pin a Hem
Hi this is Andrew on behalf of Expert Village.com and right now I am going to be showing you how to pin a hem on slacks. So we’ve already folded the hem and taken an iron to it just to press it down to make sure that it is folded correctly so that it is equally distant from the end of the fabric to the cuff where you folded it. So now just to hold it in place, you want to take some of these pins. They are typical holding pins. You can get them at any fabric store and you want to feel inside the cuff to where the fabric that was at the end is folded up to. You just want to take the pin and stick it into the fabric in the direction of the pant leg and you want to go through it coming out the other side and just sort of put it in the middle of the pin and you want to push the fabric off to the side tight just to keep it in place. So that is going to hold about a 4 inch area on either side of the pin. And you just want to take another pin and repeat this process and go all the way around the cuff every 4 inches. Going in the fabric, coming out the other side and pushing the fabric down so that it stays in place. You will want to make sure you are going on the same direction so that there is an equal tension on the fabric to keep it in place. Then you want to flip over the cuff and do the same thing on the other side. Feeling up for the fabric and right at the edge of it underneath, you want to put the pin in, bring it through and pull the fabric tight. 4 inches, push the pin through, come out the other side, center the pin and pull the fabric tight. Now that we pinned the hem, we are ready to thread the needle and get started to hem the cuff.
