How to Pick Belts for a David Bowie Costume

Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm here to talk to you about selecting a belt for your David Bowie costume. Now, if your costume calls for a jacket or if it calls for tights where you can actually see your mid section, you're probably going to want a belt. Now, in the case of a jacket, you definitely want a belt that's going to hold the whole thing together because David Bowie costumes generally don't involve an open jacket. When considering a belt, there are 2 things to think about. One of them is appearance. You want the belt to look like it belongs in the glam rock costume. You don't want your regular belt that you wear for work. You want something that's thick and bright and will grab attention. In my case, I'm taking an old belt that I have, which is pretty thick, that I'm going to be tie around my waist. I'm going to spray paint it so that it is red and matches my boots. You can also go to women's sections in stores and find the biggest size belt they have. Maybe they have these belts that are bright red and really long and just hideous, which is perfect for your costume. Another thing you need to consider is comfort. Even though you're probably going to want a women's belt, you don't want a belt that is so tight that it's going to be squeezing you and it's not going to comfortable. You want a belt that is tight enough to hold the jacket together, but not so tight that you're like...the whole time.
