How to Pick Jackets for a David Bowie Costume

Hi! This is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm here to talk to you about selecting a jacket for your David Bowie costume. Now, if your costume calls for a jacket like mine does, you have a couple options. One is you can go out and buy a really nice jacket that matches what you want to do. That's nice if you actually want to keep the jacket, but chances are if you're going for a genuine glam rock style, you don't really want to have that jacket to wear for the rest of the year. What you should do is go to a second hand store, because there you can find jackets that were in fashion back in the 70s or early 80s. Now they're dirt cheap, they'll fit you really nicely enough, and you can always tell tailor them if you have to. I found this jacket at second hand store in Boston. As you can see, it's fairly tight. It has interesting somewhat garish pattern. This is perfect for what I'm looking for. Now, later on what I'm going to do is tailor the jacket just a little bit to make it a little bit more form fitting and angle out the shoulders a little bit. Even as it is right now is just fine. The jacket fits, which is important because you don't want a jacket that looks cool but doesn't fit because then you'll be uncomfortable. get something that fits but is tight and angular. Another practical thing to consider is that the jacket is long enough because if you're going with tight pants, you might want a jacket that goes just long enough to cover up certain things. In my case, since I'm wearing tights for the costume, I made sure that the jacket was long enough to cover everything that I want covered.
