Hi, I am Ed Kramarcik, PBA member since 1989 and AMF staff player. You can visit me at my website at www.riptherackbowling.com or visit me at my pro shop at Rip the Rack Bowling. Today I want to talk about advanced bowling for the advanced players, and the gripping of the bowling ball. You have your conventional grip, which is for beginners, and then you have your full fingertip bowling ball for the advanced player. The difference between conventional and fingertip is, conventional you can put your fingers all the way into the knuckle and you get more hand in the ball; for a beginner it is less stressful on your hand and you get your fundamentals down. And then your next step up is going to a fingertip ball; the difference between fingertip is you only put your fingers into the first crease, and the thumb goes all the way into the ball. What that does is it gives you more hit off of the ball, so when you get more hit off of the ball, the ball turns up more and it is going to hook more, more spin, more hook, more strikes you are going to carry. So if you are an advanced player, and you have been bowling a while, I would definitely suggest a full fingertip ball; like I say you will go to the first crease, the thumb goes all the way in the ball and good luck bowling. Now what you want to do is, I use lifts on mine, and what that does is it gives you more hit on the ball. You could also use fingertip and go with the ovals, which is the round one, if you do not want to get that much hook on the ball; but I suggest lifts: it gets more hit, more carry, more strikes. Good luck and bowl a high game.
