How to Baby Proof Rooms

Hi, I'm Liz Hood on behalf of Expert Village and right now I am talking about different things that you need to go ahead and get before you bring your baby home. Now, one thing that my husband and I did that was extremely, extremely helpful is that we kind of scattered different things around the house just so that, and we do have a fairly small house, we don't have a second floor or anything like that but in each room of the house where we spent a lot of time, there was a safe place to sit that baby down in. In the kitchen we had a bouncy chair to keep the baby entertained while doing dishes or making dinner. That was very safe for him, our son Aiden. Now, once he was able to sit up by himself we weren't able to use the bouncy chair anymore but it was extremely helpful to be able to go into the kitchen, sit him down in that bouncy chair, pour a drink, make dinner, you know, stuff like that. In the living room we had an infant swing and that also kept him entertained in there. In our home office/guest bedroom we put a secure sleeper on the bed and let him lay there and play or nap or what have you while we were both working on our computers. That was extremely helpful and it was an added bonus point because on that corner of the room, where the bed was, was all windows and they were all East facing windows so in the morning he got quite a lot of sunlight and this helped. It was great because he was in there with us and there was the added bonus that he got so much sunlight during the day and he was a baby that slept through the night by two and a half months. So, that was definitely an added bonus to have, being able to keep him in there with us. In our bedroom we had a bassinet next to the bed. In the nursery we had the crib. But anyway, it's a really good thing to go ahead and plot out how you can set things up so that in each room of the house you have a safe place to put your baby where they can't possibly like roll off on to the floor or anything like that, just a safe place for them where they can keep entertained.
