Essential Newborn Clothes: Part 2

Hi, I'm Liz Hood on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to be talking about different clothes that you need to have for your newborn. Another good thing to have is a little sleeper like this. Now, this is a sleeper that has little snaps. I found this incredibly good because it actually has snaps that go all the way down to the feet. So this was just incredibly easy to put on. I would just lay it flat on the changing pad and then snap it up around his little kicking legs and that was far easier than sleepers like this that just have snaps, or in this case, a zipper that only goes down like about, not even halfway down one leg because then its a real struggle to get their other leg bent up and put into this other leg. Anyway, it is possible to get them into sleepers like this but it is quite a struggle so if you can help it be sure to try and always get sleepers like this that have snaps down both legs, its really helpful. I personally have plenty of baby shoes. My baby never ever ever liked having shoes on. I would put them on him, he would start screaming. He never liked having them on and in the car seat he would eventually kick them off, so it's kind of like why go through the trouble. After a while I stopped even trying to put him in shoes. So if you are getting your baby ready for pictures or something like that then shoes, baby shoes, are incredibly cute to have on their feet but other than that I never found them of any use but you might be different. One thing that did come in handy though were just little sock type booties. They are also a little bit hard to put on but they keep baby's feet warm, once they start chewing on their feet you might want to stop putting them on your baby and especially if when they start trying to pull up, if you have hard wood floors, they kind of slide around. Anyway, in the beginning little booties are really helpful. And the first couple of weeks babies grow really long nails that break off into sharp points and they kind of fling their arms around really fast and sometimes they scratch their face up really bad. These I found extremely helpful. These are kind of little mittens that you put on top of their hand and it has a little rattle. It kind of makes them a little bit more aware of their hand and the fact they are moving them. After a while though its better to have their hands free so that they can explore their world through touch, but the first couple of weeks it's nice to cut down on some of the baby face scratching.
