Hello, my name is Matt Cail on behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm here today to talk about trick or treating safety. The next thing to look at is the costumes themselves. Many of which are nowadays like full body pieces of clothing. One of the things to worry about right away is the costume in relation to your child's height. It is not good to have a costume which is too tall for them and which drags on the ground. This can represent a tripping hazard, which is not good especially when they're out late at night in the dark or if it's raining or anything worse, you don't want them tripping over their own feet because they keep catching the end of the cloat on the ground with their shoe. Another thing to keep in mind with costumes is how breathable they are. Unless it's really cold outside, odds are your child is going to be running around, they're going to be perspiring, they're going to have a lot of energy and a lot of heat. You're going to want to make sure that the costume allows the child to breathe a bit, allows their body to breathe. Is particularly concerns on costumes that are plastic because the hot air can't get through that, that stops the hot air. Cloth costumes is less of a concern. Of course another concern on costumes is to make sure to stay away from open flames. Some of these materials that are made out of costumes are not necessarily flammable, but they are very dry, nylony type materials which can even like start to alter or even close to flame. So this in general, like you normally would, keep kids away from flame.
