Fire Prevention Safety Tips for your Home
As a firefighter, most of our house fires start from a grease fire, from food that is left unattended. Candles that are left unattended that are either left too close to some curtains or been burning for too long. Overloaded outlets that are electrical hazards. It’s a good idea to watch the placement of your candles. We recently had a fire where somebody bought a new shower curtain and flaked it out over the bed, but a corner of it landed on a candle and started the bed on fire. On grease fires in the kitchen, do not leave your cooking unattended. What happens is the grease heats up to it’s flammable limit and it catches on fire. Do not throw water on the grease fire- it’ll just spread it all over the stove and onto the floor. The best thing to do is grab your ABC extinguisher and use that. Try and put a lid on it if the fire has not gotten too big, or baking soda.
