How to Export Files: GarageBand Tutorial

Hi this is David Jackel on behalf of Expert Village and I'm hear to talk to you about exporting your garageband files. So once your finished your song you have it just the way you want it you have your levels set properly. It's time to export and exporting is where you pick your finished project and you convert it to a file that you can play. You can play it on your computer you can turn it into a file that you can play it on a CD, your different options for the kind of file that your going to export. In order to export what you do is go over here into share then hit send song to itunes, this dialogs box opens the top let's you open your file and figure out how it's going to be categorized. So you can see what playist it's going to be in, the name of your artist which by default is going to be your name, the composers name also by default will be your name and the album name is what they call your album until you come up with a different name. Then you have the option whether or not to compress if you don't compress then the recording your going to make is going to have CD quality. However this is a very big file and you may not need that most of us is pretty happy with MP3's. So I usually hit compress and then you can compress using different kinds of encoders, this is an MP3' encoders or AAC encoder which is a higher quality. In audio settings you can pick different qualities you can go for higher, high or good, you can do custom, generally what I like to do is pick the MP3 encoder and then I go under audio setting. Set it for higher quality then you hit share and now garageband goes through your entire project it mixes down the whole thing, and exports it to itunes. (playing) And now from this point I can take the file and I can burn the disc with it I can send it online I can do anything I want.
