Picking Techniques for Jazz Guitar

Hello! My name is Dustin, and I am going to talk about picking position. One important thing to remember, when finding your jazz tone, is how your picking position affects the tone of the plucked note or notes. The closer your picking attack is to the neck or neck pickup, the warmer and the rounded the tone will ring and vice versa; the closer the picking attack is to the bridge or bridge pickup, the brighter and twangier the note will sound. Here is an example: picking close to the neck… picking close to the bridge… picking close to the neck… picking close to the bridge… now jazz guitar traditionally has a warm full tone, and this picking position plays a vital role.
