How to Shoot Longballs in Paintball

Hello, this is Rob Rubin and you're watching Expert Village. When we talked about shooting a paintball marker or aiming a paintball marker, we said that the usual range of a shootout is fifty to seventy five feet and that for the most part is pretty true. There is one other range that does deserve to be talked about and it's called extreme range or long ball range. When you're talking about long balling somebody, I've been at record at shooting somebody at two hundred and fifty feet and the ball breaking on them. It doesn't happen all the time, but you can do it and how you do it is really simple. Instead of shooting like this, which is a level shot when you're normally taking, what you're going to do is angle up. Yeah I know, but a lot of people don't think of this; they just kind of shoot like this and if somebody is out of range they just kind of curse and swear and go onto the next target. But, what you're doing when you're long balling is you're not making effective straight shooting, you're effectively giving mortal fire. You're firing for effect if you will. It's not going to be the most accurate shooting out there because as we said before, a paintball is a gelatin shell, liquid filled projectile. Not exactly the most accurate thing on the planet. But, you can predict how well line ball is going to land and that's just experience and practice. As I'm here at barely long balling range, what I'm going to do is I'm going to angle the marker up. Now, if you have a site on your paintball marker, it's going to be somewhat useless, except you can put the dot on the target and then raise the dot over the target to rein in the paint in the area. As I'm shooting from this far away, I do have the gun angled up. But what I'm also doing is I'm not watching down the barrel, I'm actually watching the ball in flight. This is where having a light colored ball comes in handy because you can actually track it as it flies and you can adjust as it goes. This is really handy if you're playing in windy conditions or if you're playing in conditions with a lot of tree cover on it, because a lot of tree cover, there is always one twig, there's always a twig. There's one twig that will jump out from a tree branch and block your paintball. It's always there to be there. I'm loosing them, I'm loosing them. See here's the problem that I have today is that I'm shooting a light green paintball against light green foliage. Not exactly great for long balling. Personally I prefer like a white or a yellow or a pink in order to really long ball effectively. Now something that I'm doing since I can't see the ball inflate because the ball color is I'm watching for the splats. Sometimes I'll aim a little bit to the left or a little bit to the right of the target just to make sure that I'm in the right area and I can walk it in from there. Now, if you're only like a foot away from what you want to hit, then it's only very fine increments, very small movements. But keep in mind, one inch of barrel travel at your barrel, way down range can equal ten, twenty, fifty feet of range in a cone. So, when you're adjusting don't make huge movements, just make small little adjustments up and down. Best way to go. You really shouldn't use long balling all the time, it's not going to be the best skill to take out opponents. It's handy for big games and it's handy if you have to keep people at bay for long periods of time but eventually someone's going to get the bright idea and rush you and it's not going to be one hundred percent effective. So, keep it in your back pocket, it's just another skill that you can pull out of the bag when you need it.
