Teaching Perseverance to Kids

Hello, my name is Melisa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about how to deal with a bully. In this clip let's talk about perseverance. Most young people don't know how to define perseverance, what is it? Staying determined, staying on task, staying purposeful and committed to your goals, we were talking about goal setting in an earlier clip and getting your kids to write on a business card size, their most important goal. What are they going to stay purposeful and committed to? When we're talking about dealing with a bully, perseverance it isn't easy, but you have to look at the big picture. Perhaps you're in grade 7 or 8, you're eventually going to go onto high school, you're not going to have to always deal with this bully. We have to persevere, we have to look at the bigger picture because even though we're dealing with today, it's not always going to be about today, we have to think towards the future. So, staying purposeful, staying on task, we can make a difference in our life, but also in the life's of others as well and we have to remember that you can act to create it. What did act stand for earlier? Approachability, confidence, today, so be a doer, persevere, be determined and stick to your goals and stay on task. You have to think, it's not about just today, you have to think about the bigger picture.
