Hello, my name is Melisa Schenk on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to talk about how to deal with a bully. Now, in an earlier clips we were talking about transforming that inner critic into an inner coach. A great way to start off with your kids is something as simple as smiling, be positive, optimism, choosing to be positive. Everybody has a choice when they wake up in the morning, am I going to be positive? Or am I going to be negative today? You always have a choice, there's confidence in something as simple as a smile. If you can get your children to walk with heads held high, with a smile, it does definitely make a difference. This is where spreading the sunshine in Spread the Sunshine comes into play. It's not only spreading sunshine within yourself, but to other people as well. Spreading sunshine to someone having a bad day. So when we were talking in our first clip about bullies and bystanders, as the bystander, how can you spread sunshine? How can you make a difference? Because it's not just about you, it's about the people around you, it's about making a difference and seeing how you can make a difference in the choices that you make. It's very important, this leads me to empathy. It's very interesting that a lot of young people that I talk to, they don't know what empathy means. A lot of kids, they always used to raise up their hand and say, it means to feel sorry for yourself. No. Empathy, understanding how someone else feels, putting yourself in someone else's shoe. It's very interesting, I don't know if you notice in the news, how bad weather can bring out the good in people. Things like Hurricane Katrina or Somani's, people bind together and they come together. It's important to teach your kids about empathy.
