Fireplace Safety Tips
Some things to remember on fireplace safety- fireplaces that are not gas started and you have to use a starter log; only use one starter log to start the fireplace. On gas fireplaces, make sure you have a CO detector somewhere in the room in case of CO leaking out, carbon monoxide.
Also, it’s a good idea to have some log traps, which go right in front of the logs in case the logs, when they really burn and deteriorate roll out. You don’t want them to roll out on your carpet and start a fire that way.
Always check the flue before you start your fire. Make sure that it is open, or you’re going to get a house full of smoke. That’s another common cause that we have on a structure fire- just that the flue is not open.
