About Parts of the Dart

Hi, this is Rich Buccola here in Astoria Queens at the World's Famous Doyle's Corner and, on behalf of Expert Village, today we're going to show you how to play some darts. We're going to talk about the dart. Everyone thinks the dart is, of course, the whole structure of the dart. But, really, the dart is only this part of the dart. You have the dart, this middle thick piece right here is the shaft, and then you have the flight. So, for right now for this clip, let's talk about the dart. It comes in many, many different types of metals, cheaper metals being brass. You can get a cheap pair of brass darts; this piece for under ten dollars, under five dollars, actually I've seen them. Going from brass, then you have nickel or silver is a little bit more expensive. The range could go from ten dollars up to thirty-five, forty dollars. And then you have tungsten, which is the most expensive; and I've seen tungsten darts be as cheap as twenty dollars, but also go as high as two hundred, two hundred twenty five dollars. What makes tungsten so much more money is it's durability. You don't realize, but you have acid on your hands. And just from years of playing, you know, greasy chips, you know, grabbing a glass, you actually wear down the grooves of where you hold the dart. Is the dart for one person, is it one size fit all? Absolutely not. You're going to have to see what fits you and what works for you. A lot of the dart stores in your neighborhood will actually set up a board and let you throw different darts to find the one that's right for you. When I come back, we'll talk about the flight and the shaft.
