This re-drum plays any .wav .aiff files that you have. These other one won't play those sounds because they only play sounds that are assigned to the mouse drum or subtractor, but re-drum and NN-19 can play any wav or any aiff sound with aiff as the standard sound for max. So, I happen to be using a PC so it'll work either way. So what we're going to be doing is right-clicking, selecting the NN-19 digital sampler. If you wanted to use any particular wav sound that you wanted to sample you would click this folder. There's two folders. There's this folder for any wav sound that you want and then there's the folder here for the reason samples; the files that reason has given you to manipulate. Since it'll probably be a little bit more fun we'll use this since you can use any wav file you want and you can actually play the slices that you have in the Dr. Rex folder. So you can play each individual slice on the keyboard and play it in any pitch with the corresponding notes on the keyboard. But we're going to just keep it simple. So were going to back over here to the reason factory sound bank and we're going to first just show you a little bit of fun here. Actually, go to the instruments. Go to the scratch loops. So here are actual Dr. Rex loops. Before, if you just highlighted these in the Dr. Rex player they wouldn't have this plus sign, but since you selected it through the NN-19 digital sampler it has a plus sign. So you click that and it shows all the individual slices of that Dr. Rex loop. So these are all scratch slices of the scratch loop. The original loop sounds like this, but these are all the individual slices of that. So we'll just go ahead and select one that has a significant sound on it and length to it. So now we've just selected that in, in this folder. We can play that like an npc on the keyboard.
