Hi, my name is Tracey Tenner and this is Doc. I’m the resident dog trainer and behaviorist here at Extra Care Hospital in Davy, Florida. We are here to talk to you today about how to house train your puppy. Whether or not you catch your puppy in the act of having an accident in the house, it is of the up most importance that you clean that spot very well. For our purposes, we want to get out the stain but for the purposes of the puppy we want to get out the odor because the puppy will track the puppy back to that place every single time. When you look for a product to clean up after your dog, look for something that has enzymes and definitely look for something that does not have ammonia in it because ammonia is a urine smell to a dog and will attract them back. So if your puppy has an accident, you want to sop it up as much as you can then take your cleaning products, spray it very well and saturate the area where your puppy has gone, let it sit for a few minutes and then very completely clean that spot up so that there is no odor left to attract your dog back to it. And by the way, when I am cleaning up after my puppy I try not to let my puppy be a part of it. I figure if I’m not having fun he or she doesn’t need to be having fun either.
