Hi, my name is Tracey Tenner and this is Doc. I’m the resident dog trainer and behaviorist here at Extra Care Hospital in Davy, Florida. We are here to talk to you today about how to house train your puppy. As in all aspects of dog training, the two most important things are going to be consistency and positive reinforcement. It is very important that you be consistent with your puppy so that they learn to do the same thing, the same way every time and that they learn how to please us. As far as positive reinforcement is concerned, it is important that you use a small soft treat that your puppy can eat very quickly and likes very much. Remember that puppies, like dogs, live in the moment so if we give them a big hard cookie by the time they finish chewing it, they forget what they gotten it for. So when we are praising with rewards and treats, we want to use a small soft treat that your puppy can eat very quickly and likes a lot.
