How to Sew the Edges of a Paperback Book Caddy

Hi! I'm Karen for Expert Village. Okay, we'll finish our book cover off by sewing the side edge. First, you'll want to fold down the sides like this. It should be about 2 1/2 inches, the same place the we ended our sewing our straps. We'll check. That's 2 1/2 inches. If you want, you can put a pin in there to hold it in place while you're sewing. Put one on each side like that, and again here. You can measure it see 2 1/2 inches on both sides. Then we'll just sew that in place all the way down with the same in and out stitch. I have my needle threaded. I'm going to put my knot on the inside so I don't see the knot. We'll hide that knot on the inside. You're going through 4 thicknesses here, so it's a little bit harder so we'll just do single stitches. Make them the same as you did here about the same size and sewing in and out all the way down. That's going to secure our folded down size. Let's secure our flaps and it'll close up our sides at the same time. Make sure you go through all the thicknesses there. Now, when you come to the edge here, you might want to go through one more time to give a little bit of reinforcement there. Just go around once. Then continue down. Now we're just on the doubled section. You can go in and out like this. Pull your thread through. Make sure you're getting both thicknesses there. Continue on. Now we're into the double thicknesses here, so you want to go right at the fold here we're going to go in and around again just for a little bit of reinforcement there, and then we'll continue on.
