Spackling to Paint a Living Room

Hello, my name is Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter and today I represent Expert Village.com. Now we're going to talk a little bit about spackling. Now spackling is what you do whenever you have a small hole in the wall like from an old picture hanger or an old drapery hanger, or even if your cat just started digging in the lines like he did here. Now when you're working with spackling you want to use a good light weight spackling We talked a little bit about that in materials but I want to go over that again because light weight is what's going to work the best. OK, so get a little bit of that spackling and put it right on the edge of your knife, just ball it up there a little bit, and then just smash it up into these holes. You see by using the flex blade I can just even those holes on out. And then when I, when that dries up I can back and sand that too. This is just where small drapes were. On the sill down here, you're going to see this is the place where a cat tried to get up and there's a bunch of little tiny holes all along the edge here. So, once again we just want to lay this in here and then just even that on out. You see how it fills up all those little holes, then smooth that out, and this you probably won't even have to sand. Same thing up here. And then you just scrape the excess off with your flex blade and that way you won't have to do any sanding. Now whenever spackling dries it's going to dry out nice and flat so you never have to worry about it dishing out Well I see a couple of holes on this wall here and I got a couple of picture hangers over here I don't want to use anymore, so I'm going to continue on around the room. But these are a few of the things you want to keep in mind, whenever you're doing the spackling, on an interior paint job.
