How to Play Electric Guitar Power Chords
Hi! My name is Mike Larney from the band Naked Underneath, and on behalf of Expert Village I am going to be talking about power chords. As a beginner, power chords are great way to lead yourself into bar chords. So let me just go through quickly what a power chord would be on a guitar here. A power chord, it does not matter where we are, we are just going to keep this relationship as…on the first string that you are hitting, this top one, and then on the bottom too, we are going to have this whole step relationship between, you know with reference to the fret board. So as we are there, we can move that anywhere… to throw on a little distortion… and it will be a good way to practice now. As you continue to practice with your power chords, here your finger at first will be up like this, and then work its way down to a point where you can bar all these strings down, and get a clear note all the way up. So power chords are going to be a lot of fun to be able to work on your strumming and eventually move into bar chords.
