How to Pick a Receiver for Home Theater Systems

Hi, this is expertvillage.com and we're at Leigh Adams Discount Sales and my name is Daniel Daly. Today we're going to be demonstrating how to set up your perfect home theater, be it a little screen LCD, big LP's, even giant screens on the wall. For example, most speakers can be four or six ohms. This will determine what kind of current you can give this TV speaker, not how much power it can take. I highly doubt you'll be able to give some of these speakers enough power to reach their full potential unless of course you have a descent receiver which is the next step. The receiver is the processor of these speakers, this is what determines what kind of sound comes out. This is what determines what sound goes to which speaker, it decodes your DTS, your Dolby digital, it controls the separation, meaning what sound comes out of here, what sound comes out of there, how it blends. It handles a lot of these. What the objective of the receiver is is to trick your mind into thinking that there's not just five speakers here but you have a whole wall of sound or rather you are immersed into the movie. That is the goal. It, their job is to get the sub woofer to perform the lower frequencies correctly at the same time blending into the satellite or tower speakers.
