White Balancing your Camera for Portraits

Hi, my name is Ed Cody and on behalf of ExpertVillage.com, I am going to talk to you today a little about white balance. If you need to see, what white balance does for you or can do for you go to our website codyharris.com and you will see a lot of different examples. The biggest thing that I can give you as a clue is to read your owner’s manual. There are so many cameras out there and each one is different, most of them are preset for a generic setting and everything should be fine. But every once in a while, let’s say that you are at the beach or you are in the wooded area, well the lighting conditions are going to change and that is what white balance does for you. If your camera has that feature where you can set it then you would be really glad that you learned how to do that. Read your manual and there will be a position in there where you set your dial, you can either point it at the sun or away from the sun. Each one is a little different and in our photography, we try to use something what is called like 56k. Which is kind of geared towards giving us the best overall reading that we can do whether we are out in bright sun light or under an even shaded area. So again for you the clue is this, read your owner’s manual, figure out what white balance can do for you and again you will be glad that you did.
