Learn Bass Notes & Melody Lines for the Jazz Guitar

On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Jim Dufresne and I'm here to tell you about jazz guitar. There is a very popular song called "My Funny Valentine," and we will be using this bass line, if you can call it a bass line because it is really high up (plays). You'll recognize it because it is almost like (plays "Stairway to Heaven" intro) but here it is in a different song (plays). Ok now you can see how that bass line propels the song. We're all listening to the melody, but that bass line, the middle line is telling us where we're at in the song. We're actually playing two parts. (plays) That makes a nice ending. That chord progression there has a peddle tone on top, which in this case is a C Natural. The bass line starts with an F sharp, F natural, so on down chromatically.
