Camera Settings for Photographing Children

Hi, my name is Ed Cody and on behalf of ExpertVillage.com, we are going to talk about the modes. There are different settings on your camera that you may not know anything about. Usually you have got a little dial on the top and it has got a P on there or an A or a S or all kinds of different things. Sometimes they have got pictures for us and those are real handy. You will see maybe a stick figure running. Well usually that is your sports mode, that is really good because that helps your camera keep up with a moving subject. You will have a close up of a flower and that is a good mode when you are doing maybe some stills or you are doing something out of nature. You will have a photo of some mountains and that is a good setting for you scenics. What happens is your camera’s internal settings are all geared to those images so if you do not want to think about it, you just want to point and shoot and do the best thing and rely on the engineering and all of the electronics circuitry in your camera. That is the best thing to do is the modes that are pictured on your camera. One of them that is really important for you and your child is the portrait mode. If you just want to take, all of the guess work out of it and let your camera do the work, set it on portrait mode and then just go have a lot of fun. You do not have to worry about setting f-stop, your epiture, your speed; any of those things really should not matter to you. The camera manufacturers today have done a wonderful job with that. If you want some examples of good photographic children’s work, go to codyharris.com. Thank you.
