Returning Infants to the Wall for Kids' Swimming Lesson

Okay, once your child is comfortable going underwater, we want to make sure that if they are to fall into the pool that they know to go straight back to the side. So what we’ll do first is bring Alyssa in from a sitting position and we’ll do what we call a humpy dumpy. So you want to hold on to her wrist, you don’t want your child holding you, you’re going to count, 1, 2, 3, bring them in slowly and you’re just going to turn them around and tap back to the wall. It’s really important once they get back to the wall that they hold on. Once she gets back to the wall we want to teach her to climb out and what you’re going to do is have her put an elbow up. So, elbow and then the other elbow, push up to her belly so that she’s leaning all the way over and then swing a leg up and roll on over, good girl. You want to make sure that once they get out that they get far enough from the side so that they fall back in. Once your child is comfortable coming in from a seated position you can actually have them stand up and jump. You want to make sure that their toes are on the edge and that you’re still holding onto their wrist, you want to put your hand over their wrist. You’re going to give them the cue again, 1, 2, 3, have them jump in and then turn around and then just use your fingertips to tap them back to the side. Again, once they get here you want to make sure that hold on.
