How to Groom your Baby's Nails

Hi, I'm Liz Hood with Expert Village and I am talking about how to give your baby a bath. I am going to go ahead and also talk about how to clip their nails. Now, I got this special nail clipper from Target. It's produced by American Red Cross. It has a little magnifying glass that you can use. I actually don't use the magnifying glass. I think it gets in my way really but it's there for you if you need it. I find the best way to clip a baby's nails is to just do it while they are sleeping or getting fed by somebody else, otherwise they will just flail their arms around, especially newborns and it is a lot easier when they are preoccupied with something else. One thing that I like to do when clipping the nails is to bend the skin back a little bit, that is behind the nail before you put the clipper underneath there and just make absolute sure that your clipper is just underneath the nail, there is no skin under there either. Now, his nails are relatively short. Newborns to about three months their nails grow incredibly fast and they break up in sharp points that scratch their faces when they flail their hands around. There you go, there is a sharp point right there.
