How To Decoupage A Platter: Set up & Supplies
Hi! I'm Karen for Expert Village. For this project, we'll need of course the dish that we're going to be decorating. You'll need a decoupage glue. You can get this in craft stores. It's pretty common now. You also need some sort of a sharp razor blade or Exacto blade or a knife like that. It's good to work on a pedestal. Now, I've wrapped this pedestal with a napkin so that my platter will slide around nicely as I'm working and it won't be scratching up the platter. I just wrapped it with a piece of cloth. Now, if you don't have a pedestal, you can use a container or something. Anything that will accommodate your platter. It's not as stable, but this would certainly work and it might work on smaller projects also so be creative. You can find things in your home that you can use to work with. You could even take a box or something. This is a little bit low to work on. It's nice to get a little higher, but you can find things around your home that you can work with. Okay, we'll set up our platter upside down because we are adhering the napkin to the back of the platter. The first thing you want to do is take open your napkin and separate it. There's sometimes 3 layers, sometimes 2 layers. You just want to pull those layers apart. That's it. This one has 2 layers. Sometimes there's 3 layers, so you really want to make sure that you get only the one layer of the printed part. Then you want to take a look. I'm going to take it off the pedestal for a minute. I just want to make sure that I have my layout. I'm going to set it up so it's moved down a little bit on the napkin. Because of the way the stems are, I want the stems to be on there completely so I'm going to set it up like this. I'll just carefully turn that over and put it on my platter like this. We'll start in the center and work out to the sides.
