How to Winterize your Perennial Plants

The final step that you would want to do for winterizing your perennials is top dress with a little organic fertilizer. About a tablespoon to 2 tablespoons of a nonburning fertilizer is really good. I do it in a circular motion so that one it leaches into the soil, the roots want to go out and knit into the ground. The final phase would also be to just water this plant in one more time. I'm busy person and I don't think I'll get back to watering again for a while. We'll give it a nice thorough drink and it'll be put to rest for the winter, and we'll look for it coming back up next spring. There you go. It's all nice and watered in. You can see how the fertilizer kind of disappeared into the mulch, which is good because it'll slowly leach into the soil and give that plant some nutrients coming into the fall. There you go.
