Preventing Dental Disease in Cats
Hi this is Dr. Greg McDonald and I am here from Expert Village.com and we are here to talk about dental disease in cats and how you can avoid having dental disease in cats. There are several products on the market that your cat can chew on which will actually help with the dental disease. We like those products because the cats actually enjoy them and they chew on them. One that I know of is called CET Chews and the reason they like that is it is made out of some leather, they chew on it and it releases enzymes in their mouth that breaks down the tartar on their teeth and also prevents extra tartar coming on board. There are several other oral preparations that we are going to go into that you can actually put into your cat’s mouth to try and avoid this from being a problem long term. When you do get your cat’s teeth cleaned at your veterinarians, you are going to find that they may want to put on some special things during the cleaning that will keep the tartar from building up again. But in the mean time if your cat likes these CET Chews you can get some they chew on for a while and releases enzymes in their mouth and does help with the dental disease. There are a few other ones that they have are water additives, things that you put in the water and there is mixed feelings about whether those work. Most of them are safe enough to use so you are welcome to try them for your cat but I do worry about cat’s if you put things in their water and they don’t like, they may not drink and get dehydrated and so you have to pay close attention to that.
