Hi, this is Christina Varga from the Varga Gallery in Woodstock, New York and today on behalf of Expert Village we’re going to show you how to open and run your own art gallery. Now how do you get into the paper many, many times a month, many, many times a year so that people know about you? You do that by writing and sending out a press release to the appropriate press contacts, you have to go into your phone book or on the internet and find the local paper, the local TV station, the magazines that might be interested, the people who might have travel destinations that you want to go to, you’ve got to find press releases and you have to send them press releases. What you put in a press release is; who, what, where, when and if you need to how, uh, you have to always mention your business, you have to give contact information, you have to give the most important stuff in the first paragraph. Then you have to give details, preferably also a quote so that they can put a “Hey I interviewed” this fake quote in there and that’s very helpful to them You might also want to get information to them a few weeks ahead of time so that they can call you and they can do a interview if they think that it’s press worthy, they’ll call you and they’ll ask you questions and that’s very cool too. And you now that they’re really putting in something or you can just send out images, always make sure that the images are three hundred dots per inch and at least a few inches wide so that the press can say, look; we’re going to put in a seven-inch picture and that’s really cool, this is Teams work and he got into the Woodstock Times because I sent out his picture. Very important, press releases and always give your contact information.
I think this series is GREAT...this super BEAUTIFUL girl tells an abundance of stuff that's thorough and helpful. The only thing not covered is.....how do you get the money to start a gallery in the first place and will galleries work in small towns in corn country. I plan on using this info as soon as I figure out how to get up the needed capital...PIERRE MONEY
