Finding Your “Voice” as a Self-Taught Artist

Hi. This is Christina Varga from the Varga Gallery in Woodstock, New York. And on behalf of Expert Village, today I'm going to show you how to be a self-taught artist. Not an easy thing. Alright, well how did I become an artist? I moved to New York City and was trying to work in the movies then. I was getting very frustrated and then somehow my job took me to an art supply store because I was buying a Filo Fax for my boss and the salesperson there told me I didn't need to bother buying professional grade stuff because I wasn't a professional artist, so of course I bought all the professional grade stuff just to show him, and then I took my work to a gallery and they told me I'd never be more than a Sunday painter, and so I said, "Well, you just watch." And that's how I became an artist. I've been one-upping everybody sense. Yes, tell me I can't do it, that's the first way for me to prove that I can.
