Counter Weights Holiday Antiques

So another area to collect when your collecting holiday seasonal - Christmas holiday. These are counter balances. These you put on the trees turn of the century or earlier when they didn't have lights on the trees. They put the candle and the candle would sit on the branch like this. You would have your candle and you light it. And this would be your counter balancing. These would reflect the light. A lot of common ones you see today are these counter balances with the round ball at end. This one is colored in red color. We have another example here which is the gold color, too. They would hang the balance right here on their tree and they would light the candle. Typically during the turn of the century or earlier, they would light the candle only on Christmas day. They would put their tree in Christmas evening and they would light their candles. They would have their water buckets close by because pretty flammable when you think about having these counter weights on a fresh tree. I'm sure there was more than one house burnt down when using these types of lighting devices. So they didn't use them for pretty long, maybe once on there season like the very day of Christmas and that would be it. These could be very dangerous to put on a tree but they're great to decorate with the price ranges on these. This counter balance here would cost you about $65, and these smaller round ball weight counter balances range $40-$50. So they're not inexpensive collectible but they're a fun thing to collect. So that gives you a little example. There are a lot more examples out there with different counter balances and different shapes of diamonds and really ornate colors, variations, and shapes. So these are just a few examples of what you can collect.
