Understand the Magazine Well of a .40 Caliber Semi Automatic Pistol
Okay, Now we are going to talk about the magazine I spoke of earlier. And this is how this weapon is supplied with ammunition or rounds to be fired. This right here is a magazine and they vary from different weapons. Some hold larger weapons as a 45 will maybe only hold five rounds or six rounds in a magazine some eight. The larger weapons because of the size of the ammunition being used cuts down on the space. This one here again this is a round between a 45 and a 9 mm round so it is not quite as large as a 45 but it is larger than the 9 mm. So what would happen is this magazine would be filled with ammunition, there is a spring inside here that after one round is fired the spring releases tension that that one round feeds another round up top. And as I stated before when the round goes off the gases the combustion causes this slide to go back and as it comes forward there is a little mechanism a little piece in there that catches the round and slides it back into the chamber. Now if I wanted to load this and as I say this weapon is unloaded I have confirmed that several times. This magazine is placed with the flat side of it to the rear of the hand grip. So what I would do is place this here and slide it forward until it clicked. Okay. Now my magazine is inserted. In theory if I had rounds in there and I did this that would have loaded that weapon. But for training purposes and instruction this weapon is not loaded. Now if I wanted to remove this magazine I would simply push this button and the magazine falls right out. Gravity takes hold and does its part. All I would have to do is hold it straight up and it would drop right out. Now some of them aren't as all that easy. Some of them are. This weapon here has been used quite a bit and therefore it is easier for the magazine to come out. Now again the magazine into the bottom of the magazine well and this is the magazine release budding here.
